It is bordered by the township of Hempfield to the west, the township of Fairfield to the north, the borough of Donegal to the east, and the borough of Spring Garden to the south.

The city comprises two sections, the older, residential section located to the south of the Lancaster-Lebanon Path, and the newer business and commercial section located to the north of the path. The city is served by the Biglerville Area School District.
