The town is geographically speaking a fairly small affair, consolidating around the Vienna Amtrak station and a smattering of shitty little shops and restaurants. The surface bustle is mirrored by the emptiness of the city's streets; Argenta's population of just over 2,000 makes it one of the smaller towns in Illinois.
Furthermore, Argenta is in plague territory; according to the FBI, it's one of the most crime-ridden places in the state. Which is ironic, as Argenta is renowned for its police department—one of the best in the area.
Despite the difficult environment, Argenta manages to provide the necessities for most its citizens: a bank, pharmacy, three restaurants, a gas station, and a Post Office. There's also a small jail, a public library, and a handful of churches.
Beyond the necessities, Argenta is a surprisingly diverse town. As you walk down the street, you'll find locals from all walks of life, from white-collar workers to blue-collar laborers. This isn't to say that Argenta is a utopia—the crime rate is high, and there's little to do in the winters—but this sense of diversity is something that makes the town stand out.
