Alamance City is the county seat of Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 12,500 at the 2010 census. Alamance is a relatively young city, having been founded in 1771. The Alamance County Historical Museum is in downtown Alamance City. The city is also the home of East Carolina University.

Alamance City lies at the confluence of the White Oak and Haw River watersheds. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water.

The city is served by the I-129/US 75 freeway.

As of the census of 2010, there were 12,500 people, 5,579 households, and 3,374 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,896.8 people per square mile (775.5/km²). There were 6,104 housing units at an average density of 898.7 per square mile (338.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 69.8% White, 25.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.3% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.8% from other races, and 2.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.5% of the population.

There were 5,579 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.5% were married couples living together, 18.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.1% were non-families. 31.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city, the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,574, and the median income for a family was $42,050. Males had a median income of $31,478 versus $22,542 for females.
